Foam & Feather Fill Care

Whether you enjoy soft feather-filled comfort or a more supportive upright feel, each sofa or armchair will need regular maintenance to keep its original plush shape.

Always having your favourite comfy spot on the couch is exciting, however over time the foam will slowly break down in that one spot if not cared for properly.

With some simple steps taken weekly, you will be left with a perfect-looking sofa for years to come.

Foam Care

Aside from keeping your fabric or leather upholstery clean, it is just as important to look after its filling so it will stand the test of time. We have put together a list of tips and tricks when it comes to maintaining the longevity of your foam-filled furniture pieces.

  • Plump your seat and back cushions weekly to maintain its original appearance.
  • For sofas that have reversible seat and back cushions, such as our Australian Made collection, we also recommend rotating and flipping them weekly to allow for the foam to be evenly used.
  • Occasionally you will need to open your cushion cover and push the foam to line up with the edges.
  • Steam and vacuum your fabric pieces regularly to avoid heavy wrinkles being imprinted into the foam.

Feather fill care

If you have invested in a fibre or feather-filled sofa, additional care is needed when it comes to maintaining its overall look and feel so you can enjoy it season after season.

Over time a feather-filled seat cushion will naturally start to dip and create unattractive lumps depending on how you lounge on it. To stop the feathers from compressing, you need to regularly fluff and flip your cushions to manipulate the feathers back into their original positions, restoring its plush shape and keeping an even distribution throughout the piece.

Feather inserts are designed to provide a soft and luxurious feel, however due to their natural characteristics, some shedding is to be expected. Even with regular maintenance, these cushions can still experience a gradual loss of feathers. This natural and unavoidable process, known as leaching, refers to the gradual shedding of feathers from the insert. As a result, these pieces can lose up to 10% of their feather fill.
