How To Layer Your Interior Like A Pro

Think of your furniture pieces as the foundation of your home. Just as you dress yourself depending on the weather, your furniture needs added elements to help it transition between the different seasons of the year.

Layering with décor is an effective way to show off your style and personality, making your home a place that truly reflects who you are. With the right combination of furniture and décor, you can make your home look beautiful and perfectly suited to any season.

Soft Landings

After your furniture, the most important element of your space is a rug. Rugs can transform the look of your room.

If most of your living room is neutral and simple, consider a bold colour or pattern in your rug, and vice versa. Likewise, a block coloured rug will bring a calm and cohesive feeling into your home with clean lines and simple flooring.

A thick woolen rug is the perfect way to cozy up your space during the colder months. Not only will it make your space feel warm and inviting, but it can also provide a soft cushion for your feet. Wool is also very durable and can last for years, so you don’t have to worry about replacing it any time soon.

High pile rugs are the ideal choice for winter, as they are plush and luxurious. Transform hardwood flooring into a comfortable landing pad that will make your home feel warm and inviting. They create a space that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

Timeless Character

Next is your walls. Cover your windows with drapes to add a touch of softness and elegance to your home. The fabric of the curtains will help to create an intimate atmosphere, perfect for lounging and relaxing.

Choose curtains in light, airy fabrics such as cotton, linen or lace for a delicate and feminine look. You can also add texture and interest to your home with patterned curtains. Consider colors that match the rest of your decor, and make sure the curtains are long enough to create a luxurious look. Hang the curtains on a rod above the window to create a classic, timeless look.

Don’t neglect plain walls. Hang artwork that can bring colour and energy to your space, while also inspiring you. Choose pieces that make a statement, whether it's a large artwork or a collection of smaller pieces.

Consider the colour palette you'd like to introduce to your space and the mood you want to create. Allow the artwork to be the focal point of the room and coordinate with other furnishings or accessories for a complete look. Make sure to find the right spot to hang it so that it can truly stand out and be appreciated.

Seasonal Delights

Using the existing furniture in your room as the foundation, add warmth to the space by draping a thick throw blanket over the back of your sofa or across the base of your bed. This simple addition can create a much more inviting atmosphere.

Add a few decorative scatter cushions to add a pop of color and texture. Consider your colour palette when choosing these accessories. You can either create a timeless colour scheme that will work all year round or switch out these pieces seasonally from dark to light. Experiment with different placements to find the perfect spot for your blanket to make the room look cozy and inviting.

Incorporating a few additional pieces of furniture such as an ottoman, armchair or side table can also add a unique touch to your space. With these simple additions, your space will be instantly transformed into a warm and inviting area.

The Finishing Touch

Finish off your room by including candles and a floor lamp or table lamp for casting a soft, warm glow. Candles can be placed in various locations, such as on coffee tables, a mantel, or on a bedside. A floor lamp or table lamp can be a great source of warm ambient lighting and can also be used to highlight specific areas of the room.

To add a touch of nature indoors, include some greenery such as houseplants, succulents, or even a small potted tree. Adding this element will provide a calming effect to the room. It can help to make the room more inviting and relaxing by bringing the outdoors in.
