Tips for Assembling Your Furniture

It’s an exciting time when your new furniture is being delivered into your home. We cannot stress the importance of assembling your furniture the correct way. This will avoid damaging your pieces or scratching the floor in your home.
We have put together some tips below to ensure you assemble your furniture the correct way.

Assembling Dining Tables

  • It is recommended that two or more people should assemble larger furniture items.
  • Open the box with a blunt pair of scissors or with an item that is sharp enough to cut through the sticky tape but not through the box and into the furniture. Sharp knives are NOT recommended for opening the packaging of your items.
  • When attaching legs to a dining table, ensure the table-top is placed upside down on a soft floor covering to avoid any scratches, such as a blanket or rug. Ensure there is two people to lift the table and turn it over ensuring all 4 legs land on the floor together. (Do not pivot the table on one side placing all the weight on two legs as they will snap).
  • Ensure all washers are used and bolts are tightened to avoid excessive wobbling.
  • Do not overtighten screws as it can cause the timber to split.
  • Some products have locks on the extension parts of the table. These need to be unlocked or removed before attempting to pull out an extension dining table.
  • Do not drag the table into position – lift and place down gently. Dragging a heavy item can weaken its joins and scratch your flooring.

Assembling Dining Chairs

  • Ensure all washers are used and bolts are tightened to avoid excessive wobbling.

Assembling Storage and Cabinetry

  • Use two or more people to move your buffet into position.
  • Open the box with a blunt pair of scissors or with an item that is sharp enough to cut through the sticky tape but not through the box and into the furniture.

Assembling Sofas

  • Open the box or plastic bag with a blunt pair of scissors or with an item that is sharp enough to cut through the sticky tape, but not through the box and into the fabric of your sofa. Sharp knives are NOT recommended for opening the packaging of your items.
  • Corner protectors on lounges are to be removed by gently levering the staple out with a screwdriver or plyers to ensure the fabric does not tear.
  • Do not drag the item into position – lift and place down gently. Dragging a heavy item can weaken its joins and scratch your flooring.

Assembling Bedroom Furniture

  • The side rails on beds need to be positioned and then both ends screwed in together. (Screwing in one end of the rail whilst the other end is not in position will cause weakness at the connection points).
