Living Room Must-Haves

Elevate your space with these essential items

Your living room is the heart of the home. A space where your family gathers around the TV at the end each day, and where you entertain guests on the weekend. Therefore, your living room should be shown some love and attention when it comes to picking out furniture, styling and its layout.

Here are the essentials to create the perfect living space.

The most important element of a living room is your sofa. Take your time choosing the perfect design fit for your lifestyle and interior. Some things to consider would be the overall size of your space, whether you need a chaise, modular or standard design, and the upholstery material and colour.

Once you have your sofa picked out, you can then decide on a coffee table or side table to complete the main look. The choice is yours with endless material options, storage opportunities, sizing and shapes.

Create Seating Options

Accompany your sofa with a statement chair that brings a new and exciting element to the room. Not only does it maximise your seating, but it also introduces a different silhouette or colour palette to the space. You can never go wrong with a boucle accent chair that has a curved design and tons of visual texture.

Consider adding an ottoman or bench seating by a window to give your guests different areas and options to mingle. This will zone off your space and create the flow of conversations within an open plan living room.

Ground your room with an oversized rug. Choosing the correct sized rug for your space is extremely important for a living room. The general rule of thumb is to make sure the front feet of the sofa and any chairs are on the rug. However bigger is better and we love when an area rug can cover the room, providing warmth underfoot and some added texture.

Without compromising your aesthetic, look for gorgeous storage buffets, sideboards or console tables to fill an empty wall and provide storage to hide away the clutter. Living rooms are high traffic areas and can quickly get messy, especially with small children. Having a buffet or media console in the room is a great idea to store away your blankets, toys, board games or extra kitchenware for when guests come over.
